Fletcher Challenge Canada Ltd. said its 2,400 unionized workers broke off contract talks and set Monday as a strike deadline.
The Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada and the Pulp, Paper and Woodworkers of Canada union made demands that would raise labor costs 35 percent over three years, the company said.
The unions represent three mills in British Columbia.
