Centenary Methodist Opening Preschool

Nina Culver Correspondent

Centenary United Methodist Church is preparing to launch a new preschool program in the fall. The school, open to 3- and 4-year-olds, will be staffed by certified teachers.

The classes will emphasize the development of the total child - academic, social, physical and spiritual, according to a church news release. The program will focus on creative expression through art, music and drama.

The young children will also learn to speak Spanish by learning numbers, colors, days of the week and simple language skills.

“Young children are naturals for foreign languages,” said Helen Dunlap, who will teach the Spanish classes. “I think it’ll be fun to teach those kids the basics of Spanish vocabulary.”

The Monday/Wednesday and Tuesday/Thursday morning classes for 3-year-olds are $85 a month. Four-year-olds can attend Monday/Wednesday/Friday or Tuesday/Thursday morning classes or afternoon classes on Monday/ Wednesday/Friday.

Three days of classes a week for 4-year-olds will cost $125 a month. Two days is $100 a month.

Registration for the classes is open now. Class sizes will be limited to 10 per class for 3-year-olds and 12 per class for 4-year-olds.

For registration information, call the church office at 534-0881.

The classes will be held in the church, located at 1012 S. Freya.

Classes will begin Sept. 2.
