A Hole In One

Travel through just about any Southern city, and it’s hard to miss the green, white and red Krispy Kreme sign promising ethereal doughnuts coated in a crunchy, sweet glaze. As of Thursday, Krispy Kreme became an official part of American history: the latest inductee into the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History. Among the memorabilia is a contraption called the Ring King Junior doughnut-making machine. Missing, however, is Krispy Kreme’s secret recipe, stashed in a vault in North Carolina.
