Sting Remain Perfect At Home, Winless Away

Andrea Stinson scored 23 points and Vicky Bullett added 17 to lead the Charlotte Sting to a 75-64 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks in WNBA action Monday night in Charlotte, N.C.

The Sting (6-6) remained unbeaten in six home games.

Lisa Leslie scored 18 points for Los Angeles (5-9) and Penny Toler added 15.

Neither team led by more than three points in the first half and they went into halftime tied 33-33.

Tamecka Dixon of the Sparks hit a 3-pointer with 14:01 left to tie it 43-43, but Stinson answered with a 3-pointer with 13:33 remaining to put Charlotte ahead for good.

Stinson, who also had eight assists, hit a 10-foot jumper on Charlotte’s next possession for a 48-43 lead with 13:15 left. Mwadi Mabika made a short jumper 30 seconds later to trim the deficit to three, but the Sparks could get no closer.

Nicole Levesque’s two free throws gave Charlotte its biggest lead, 66-55 with 3:25 left. The Sparks mounted an 8-2 run during the next 2 minutes to cut the deficit to five with 1:39 remaining, but Bullett made a free throw, Penny Moore added two free throws and Stinson hit a 3-pointer to put the game away.

Jennifer Gillom scored 19 points to lead Phoenix to its third consecutive victory.

Toni Foster had 15 points and 11 rebounds for Phoenix (8-3), which has won six of its last seven games.

Latasha Byears scored 21 points on 9-of-12 shooting and added a WNBA-record 17 rebounds for the Monarchs (5-8), who led 23-21 at halftime.
