Fish Trapped In Columbia Dam

Associated Press

A number of fish are trapped at Bonneville Dam after a fish ladder was damaged by high water flows and debris.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers discovered the problem July 17 but biologists don’t know how many fish are stuck or what the exact plan will be to save them, said Diana Brimhall, a spokeswoman for the agency.

Dislodged gratings created an opening into a dead-end passageway. The fish swam into the opening and became trapped.

The grates have since been repaired.

Divers who sent into the area videotaped sturgeon, carp and squawfish.
