Courier Thumps Foe

Jim Courier defeated Goran Ivanisevic of Croatia 6-3, 6-4 to advance to the title match of the Infiniti Open in Los Angeles.

Sweden’s Thomas Enqvist, returning from a left-foot injury that kept him out of the French Open and Wimbledon, defeated France’s Guillaume Raoux 6-4, 6-1 in the other semifinal.

Martina Hingis, overcoming a mid-match letdown for the second straight day, defeated Lindsay Davenport 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 to reach the final of the Bank of the West tournament at Stanford, Calif.

Hingis will face sixth-seeded Conchita Martinez in today’s final. Martinez defeated third-seeded Amanda Coetzer 6-4, 6-0.

Top-seeded Sergi Bruguera of Spain reached the final of the Croatia Open with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over countryman Alberto Martin at Umag, Croatia.

Spaniard Felix Mantilla, seeded third, defeated compatriot and defending champion Carlos Moya 7-6 (7-5), 5-7, 6-3.
