Four Die In Plane Crash At Edge Of B.C. Ski Area
The bodies of four people killed in a small plane crash were found Monday near this southern British Columbia community, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said.
A U.S.-registered Piper Cherokee crashed Sunday near Mount Ymir at the edge of the Whitewater ski area. The single-engine plane had departed Nelson for Creston, 37 miles southeast, about 4 p.m.
The pilot had not filed a flight plan, so the plane was not reported overdue until Monday morning, Sgt. W.J. Sutherland said.
The search, however, began Sunday night after a satellite picked up a strong signal from an emergency beacon about 8 p.m.
Searchers found the crash site and the four victims Monday. No names were released, but RCMP believe two victims were from Creston and two from California.
