Women athletes, who made such an impact at last summer’s Olympics, are getting an international multi-sport event of their own.
The Women’s Global Challenge, featuring top female athletes from around the world in sports such as figure skating, basketball and gymnastics, will be held for the first time in the spring of 1999, organizers announced.
The event, to be held every two years, will include eight sports and hopes to raise $2.3 million for sports programs for women and girls, the sponsoring Women’s Sports Foundation said.
