Here are some of the agencies that provide drug- and alcohol-free programs for teenagers during the summer:

YMCA, 838-3577. Day camps for kids in grades 1-8. Volunteer opportunities for high school students.

Chase Youth Commission, 625-6440. Kids’ week Aug. 16-23. Low cost and free activities throughout the week.

Greater Spokane Substance Abuse Council’s Prevention Center, 922-8383. Periodic dances, leadership camps and other activities.

City of Spokane Parks and Recreation Department. Programs ranging from tennis camps to bead-working classes. Some free, others requiring a fee. For programs geared toward teens, call 625-6297. General information, 625-6200.

Libby Teen Center. Open throughout the summer with a variety of activities for teenagers. The center is located at 2900 E. First.

Spokane County Parks, Recreation and Fair, 456-4730. Swim teams and lessons beginning later this month for kids 6-18.

City of Coeur d’Alene Recreation Department, 769-2250. Tennis classes and softball.
