New faces:
Shea Construction Inc. has hired Lisa Richardson as marketing director. Her responsibilities include developing all written, visual and historical project information for use in business development as well as in client, public and community communications. Richardson previously spent eight years as marketing coordinator for the Santa Monica office of Gensler, an international architectural, interior design and planning firm.
Bill Cathcart has joined Northwest Mortgage’s Valley office. Cathcart has more than 10 years of experience in real estate sales and mortgage lending.
The Spokane Area Convention & Visitors Bureau has added Janet McCann and Linda Miller to its staff:
McCann joined the bureau as convention sales manager and will concentrate on attracting retail, insurance, government, religious, Native American and athletic groups to Spokane. McCann is a graduate of the University of Montana with a degree in organizational communications. She previously worked in sales for Kraft Foods.
Miller was named communications manager. She previously worked for the Kitsap Peninsula Visitor & Convention Bureau as tourism development manager and has 25 years of experience in the travel industry. Miller is responsible for national and local media relations, member communications and coordinating the Spokane Film Council.
Eagle Rehab has hired the following people:
Kerri Johnson Seiler joined Eagle Rehab’s Newport Highway clinic as a staff therapist. Seiler, who has three years of experience in physical therapy, previously was with the University of Nebraska Medical Center Rehab Services. Her emphasis is sports medicine.
Jan E. Collins joined the company’s downtown clinic as a physical therapist. Collins has seven years of experience providing physical therapy and previously worked for Holy Family Hospital.
Dorothy M. Detlor-Langan has been named dean of the Intercollegiate Center for Nursing Education, effective August 1. Detlor-Langan, who currently is dean of the School of Nursing at Pacific Lutheran University, succeeds Thelma Cleveland, who retires after serving as ICNE dean since 1982. Detlor-Langan was a member of the ICNE faculty from 1974 to 1989 and is a graduate of the Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing.
Mark Noble has joined Washington Trust Bank as assistant vice president and trust officer. Noble, who is a graduate of Central Washington University, will be responsible for managing he department’s farm and real estate investment holdings as well as select private trust accounts.
Windermere Real Estate/Leroy Johnson Inc. has hired the following sales associates: Don Snyder joins Windermere with three years of experience in real estate and 13 years of experience as a sales representative.
Carla Wickwire, most recently with Prudential Crane, has practiced real estate since 1994.
Thomas Carney formerly with Prudential Crane, has been in real estate for three years.
Conan Dunham, formerly self-employed, begins his career in real estate with Windermere.
Randy Haylett has joined Output Technology Corp. as a sales support specialist. Haylett will be responsible for coordinating print samples and printer cost analyses for channel partners. She previously worked for Egghead Inc. in the merchandising and marketing departments.
Moving up:
Debra “Debbie” Carlson has been promoted to retail banking officer at Washington Trust Bank. Carlson, manager of the bank’s Second & Wall branch, has more than 13 years of banking industry experience and joined Washington Trust in 1994.
Garry E. Borders has been promoted to agency manager for Beneficial Life Insurance Co. He will oversee agency operations in Eastern Washington, North Idaho and Western Montana. Borders joined Beneficial Life in 1978 and has been the company’s national Mentor of the Year three times in the last eight years.
Bill Heiber has been named vice president research & development/ regulatory affairs at Columbia Paint & Coatings. He joined Columbia in 1994 as director-research & development/ regulatory affairs. Heiber has more than 20 years of experience in the industry, including work for Morton International (Morris Paint) and Mobil Chemical Co.
Idaho Independent Bank has promoted Susie Williksen to vice president in charge of sales, personnel and training. Williksen, who joined the bank in 1993, has more than 25 years of experience in the financial industry.
Starting up:
OfficeTeam has named Melissa Hauge division director in charge of launching the company’s new Spokane branch office. She previously was a staffing manager with OfficeTeam in Bellevue. Hauge will oversee management and placement of administrative and office support professionals. The Spokane office is one of 140 OfficeTeam locations throughout the United States and Canada.
Kathleen Parkins has opened KAP Typing and Office Help, a home-based typing business. The business will handle typing, fliers and business cards, among others, and offers free pickup and delivery.
Gregor Klante and David Lageschulte have established Sunset Outdoor West Inc., an outdoor advertising company specializing in bulletin-size billboards. An item in last week’s Business Beat column gave an incomplete corporate name.
Elected:
Sandra Bates has been re-elected to a second term as regional representative of the International Society of Appraisers. Bates, who has been a personal property appraiser and estate liquidator for the past five years, also is chairman of the society’s Regional Representative Committee and in April was appointed to its Ethics Committee. She works at Professional Appraisal Services.
Kudos:
Johnson Matthey Electronics has received the 1996 Supplier Excellence Award from Tokyo Electron Europe Ltd. JME is the first non-Japanese supplier to receive the award, which is based on commitment to customer support, proficiency in achieving the lowest number of product defects, price, delivery and willingness and ability to cooperate with Tokyo Electron.
Lanier Worldwide has donated a copier to Youth Help Association in Spokane. The gift was distributed through Gifts In Kind International, a charity which deals with product philanthropy.
Coleen Darrah and Rifat Aktimur, owners of Premier Marketing, have been recognized by the Spokane Chapter of the Service Corps or Retired Executives for sales growth, job creation and marketing strategy.
Dan W. Keefe has become a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. Keefe is a partner in the law firm of Keefe, King & Bowman PS and has been practicing for 22 years. He is a graduate of Gonzaga University School of Law.
Mark Fogle, an employee at Southcrest, was awarded an employee scholarship from Unicare Health Facilities. The scholarship program enables employees to stay informed of the latest changes and innovations in geriatric and rehabilitative health care.

Pat Sharp has been certified as a National Certified Counselor (NCC) through the National Board for Certified Counselors Inc. Sharp began working in private practice with children and young adults 19 years ago and is currently in private practice.
Larry Lee, a member of Universal Realty, has received the Certified Real Estate Brokerage Manager (CRB) designation from the Real Estate Brokerage Managers Council.
Ira Amstadter, consultant and co-owner of Express Personnel Services, has received the Certified Personnel Consultant (CPC) designation from the National Association of Personnel Services.
Tom Messina, of Messina Construction, has been approved as a Registered Master Builder by the Idaho Building Contractors Association. Requirements for the designation include excellent credit, workers compensation, liability insurance, efficiently handling all phases of construction and six recommendations.
