Elderhostel Programs Begin Today

Susan English The Wire Services Contributed To Thi Staff writer

It’s not too early to sign up for the three Elderhostel programs at Schweitzer Mountain Resort.

They are open only to those age 55 and older. Students stay at the Green Gables Lodge on the mountain and the coursework combines classroom instruction with outdoor activities.

The first session begins today and runs through Friday and coursework includes forest ecology, geology of the North Idaho Selkirk Mountains and raptors of North Idaho. This session, however, is already full.

The other sessions are August 17-22 and Sept. 21-27. The August session covers the balance of geological and ecological systems in North Idaho and includes guided llama hikes.

The final session studies the natural history of North Idaho and includes golf at Hidden Lakes Golf Resort.
