Gm Continues Talks With Auto Workers
General Motors Corp. and the United Auto Workers union continued talks Monday aimed at ending an eight-week assembly plant strike and preventing walkouts at two parts plants.
The resumption of discussions followed a weekend of separate negotiations for each of the three plants in Michigan and Wisconsin.
“There was progress made at all the locations,” spokesman Reg McGhee said at UAW headquarters. “Bargaining was pretty intense all weekend.”
The union had threatened to call strikes late last week if local contracts were not completed at three parts plants. A tentative contract was reached before a strike deadline Friday for 912 UAWrepresented workers at a foundry in Saginaw, Mich.
