Grant Approved To Train Disabled Migrant Workers

Associated Press

The state’s getting a $800,000 federal grant to fund a new training program for migrant and seasonal workers with disabilities that make it hard or impossible for them to get jobs.

The grant, which will cover five years, will help pay for training programs and start employment projects in four areas. In each area, the state Division of Vocational Rehabilitation will enter into business agreements with major private sector employers.

The targeted areas are Boise-Nampa-Caldwell, Idaho Falls, Pocatello and Burley-Twin Falls.

The Division of Vocational Rehabilitation will solicit four formal business relationships with employers and provide funding for employment and training. The state also will screen eligible individuals.

Employers will agree to hire people who meet screening criteria, subject to their hiring needs at the time, provide training and feedback on which workers will be considered for permanent jobs.
