State Welfare Deadline Near For Family Assistance Program
People receiving benefits under a major state welfare program must meet a Friday deadline for signing personal responsibility contracts to keep receiving aid after July 1.
People in the Aid to Families with Dependent Children program will move to the new Temporary Assistance for Families in Idaho program in July.
As part of Idaho’s new welfare laws, aid recipients must prepare and sign a personal responsibility statement.
The contract will be used to determine cash benefits and ensure a smooth transition.
Besides serving as a formal application for benefits, the contract will lay down specific terms for reaching self-reliance.
The contracts will specify that adults must participate in specified work activities at least 20 hours per week, which can include community service.
They must cooperate in establishing paternity and collecting child support, immunize children and keep children in school.
