Developers Planning New Home Depot
Home Depot developers hope to begin construction on their North Side home improvement center next spring.
The store would replace Country Homes Building Supply and Country Homes Power Equipment on U.S. Highway 2 north of the Division “Y” and south of Hoerner Road.
Plans call for a 106,000-square-foot store with the 24,000-square-foot garden center.
Robert Spears, a real estate broker with ERA Heritage Properties, said it’s about the same size as Eagle Hardware and Garden, a little further south on Division Street.
“Since Ernst closed, it’s been a captive market. The timing is good for this,” said Spears.
A Wendy’s fast-food restaurant is also planned for the 11-acre site.
Spears is one of the project developers along with Spokane developer Rich Naccarato, and Niles and John Selden, who own the Country Homes supply businesses.
A lightly-attended traffic meeting was held in May. There are still several hurdles, including review of environmental impacts and comment periods before the city issues a building permit.
Another Home Depot is under construction near Sprague and Fancher in the Spokane Valley.
In other business news: Two North Side shopping centers near Northpointe Plaza on the Newport Highway are being planned by Redding Construction.
Agent Jeff Penna of Coldwell Banker, representing both projects, said the largest of the two projects is a 30,000-square-foot center located near Nevada and Hawthorne Roads, behind the Safeway at NorthPointe Shopping Center.
Penna said a national company has expressed interest in the center. He declined to name the company, but described it as a “recreational facility.”
The smaller center will be located at Nevada and Holland, and will probably include retail and office space, and a restaurant.
Penna said the centers are expected to open in the fall “if everything falls into place.”
Noble’s moves to new location
Noble’s office supplies on the North Side has moved to the Garland District from North Washington Street, where it was known as The Office Suppliers.
Manager Dennis Duncan said the quaint neighborhood shopping area is more retail-friendly and more pedestrian-oriented than the former location.
“We’ve been getting to meet the neighbors,” said Duncan. “There are a lot of nice people here, some new businesses.”
Noble’s, at 713 W. Garland, carries a full line of office basics, plus a new selection of gifts and teaching supplies for teachers, home schools, day cares and other educational groups.
