Roundup

Andres Galarraga’s second three-run homer in 24 hours helped the visiting Colorado Rockies to an 8-4 victory over the sinking San Diego Padres on Thursday.

Galarraga’s shot to right field, his 20th, came with two outs in the third and capped a five-run inning that gave Colorado a 5-2 lead.

Danny Jackson (1-4) surrendered Galarraga’s homer two outs after allowing Eric Young’s bases-loaded, two-run double.

Larry Walker also drove in three runs, going 2 for 5 to give him a .416 average.

Roger Bailey (8-5) won his third straight start, allowing four runs on eight hits in six innings.

Giants 5, Dodgers 2 San Francisco

Shawn Estes allowed one run on three hits in 7-1/3 innings as San Francisco beat Los Angeles for its fifth straight victory.

Estes (9-2) struck out seven and walked three.

He allowed only an infield single by pitcher Pedro Astacio in the third, Billy Ashley’s fifth homer in the seventh and a single by Brett Butler in the eighth.

J.T. Snow had an RBI double in the fourth, the first hit off Astacio, and the Giants added three runs in the sixth on a leadoff homer by Stan Javier and a two-run blast by Bill Mueller.

Barry Bonds added a solo homer, his 14th of the season, in the eighth.

Mets 7, Pirates 6 New York

Jason Hardtke got his first hit of the season, a one-out single in the ninth inning that drove in the winning run and gave New York a victory over Pittsburgh.

Dale Sveum hit a three-run homer off Mets relief ace John Franco (1-1) in the top of the ninth, tying it at 6.

In the bottom half, Ricardo Rincon (2-4) walked Todd Hundley and Carl Everett with one out. Hardtke followed with a single into right-center, and there was no play at the plate.

Hardtke was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk on Monday. He took over as a defensive replacement for second baseman Carlos Baerga in the seventh inning against the Mets, and went 1 for 2.

American League

Angels 4, Athletics 3 Anaheim, Calif.

Garret Anderson drove in the tying and winning runs with a one-out single in the ninth inning as Anaheim beat Oakland to end a five-game losing streak.

Reliever Mike James (4-2) allowed three hits over two innings for the victory - Anaheim’s 11th of the season in its final at-bat - despite giving up an unearned run that put Oakland up 3-2 in the top of the ninth.

Darrin Erstad opened the Angels’ ninth with a single off Buddy Groom, and Oakland closer Billy Taylor struck out Dave Hollins for the first out. But Taylor (2-4) walked Orlando Palmeiro and hit Jim Leyritz to load the bases. Mike Mohler, who has blown all three of his save chances, then gave up Anderson’s game-ending single to leftcenter field on an 0-1 pitch.
