Saddam Son’s Favorite Crooner Almost A Hit

Compiled From Wire Services

An Iraqi singer who is a favorite of President Saddam Hussein’s eldest son narrowly missed being killed by gunmen, an Iraqi newspaper reported Saturday.

Unidentified gunmen fired at Kadhem Al-Saher’s car as it traveled on the main highway linking Baghdad to neighboring Jordan, according to Babil, an influential daily owned by Odai Hussein.

The newspaper said al-Saher was traveling to Baghdad to perform a concert celebrating Odai’s hospital discharge. The paper gave few details of the attack and did not say when it took place. The concert, however, was scheduled for June 18, Odai’s birthday.
