Gm, Uaw Negotiators Seek End To Strike
Negotiators for General Motors Corp. and the United Auto Workers continued efforts Tuesday to end a two-month strike at a truck assembly plant in suburban Detroit.
The 5,850 workers at the Pontiac East pickup-truck assembly plant and the nearby GM Truck Product Center have been on strike since April 22.
The dispute is largely over staffing levels. The UAW wants hundreds more workers hired to ease overtime demands.
Meanwhile, union workers at GM’s catalytic converter plant in Oak Creek, Wis., ratified a three-year contract that contains some assurances of job security.
