Indians’ Road Woes Continue As Rockies Down Tribe 10-4 Portland’s Table-Setters Dominate Spokane Pitching
Portland Rockies outfielders Jeremy Jackson and Andres Mitchell continue to set the table and leave the Spokane Indians hungry for a road win.
Jackson and Mitchell, hitting leadoff and No. 2, were a combined 5 for 11 Tuesday to send the Rockies (6-2) past the Indians 10-4 in Northwest League play at Civic Stadium.
Jackson and Mitchell are 14 for 25 (.560) in three games, all wins, against the Indians (5-3). Spokane started the year 5-0 with a home sweep over Salem-Keizer.
The fourth game of the five-game series with Portland is tonight. Left-hander Jason Gooding is scheduled to start for Spokane. He gave up three hits and no runs in four innings in his first start, a no-decision.
Jackson’s two-run double off starter Eric Yanz (0-1) highlighted a three-run fourth that gave Portland a 6-3 lead. Jackson, who has six RBIs in the series, had a run-scoring single in the fifth for an 8-3 lead.
Spokane’s Doug Blosser doubled and scored on Jeremy Hill’s sacrifice fly in the second. He also hit a solo home run, his first, in the eighth.
Rico Montas’ RBI triple in the third allowed Spokane to tie at 3.
