UCLA basketball recruit Schea Cotton scored 920 on the Scholastic Assessment Test he took for the third time and has been cleared to play for the Bruins. … Julie Orlowski has been named Boise State’s first women’s soccer coach. Orlowski comes to Boise State following a two-year appointment as head women’s soccer coach at the University of North Florida. Boise State will play its first intercollegiate soccer game, men or women, in the fall semester of 1998. … Olympic gold-medal skater Scott Hamilton, 38, underwent surgery for testicular cancer at the Cleveland Clinic. The 4-hour surgery was successful. Hamilton was diagnosed with cancer in March.
