Dollar Falls Vs. Key Currencies

The dollar fell against most key currencies Wednesday, hurt by unexpectedly strong Japanese economic data that suggested Japan’s record-low interest rates could soon start to rise.

New indications of a possible delay in Europe’s single currency also pressured the dollar indirectly by helping to strengthen the mark, which would remain the predominant European currency if the January 1999 timetable for introducing the euro is postponed.

The dollar ended higher against the pound on a broad sell-off in the British currency.
