Tribute To Jackie
Rachel Robinson, the widow of baseball great Jackie Robinson, accepted newly minted coins Thursday commemorating the 50th anniversary of her husband’s breaking of the major league color barrier. Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin presented her with a $5 gold coin and a silver dollar at a ceremony. The coins - 100,000 gold and 200,000 silver - are being sold by the U.S. Mint. A portion of the proceeds, up to $4.5 million, will benefit the Jackie Robinson Foundation, which conducts educational and leadership programs for minority youths.
