Black Films Honored
“Once Upon a Time When We Were Colored” won the best film award at the Acapulco Black Film Festival over the weekend, though “Set it Off” took the largest share of awards. Ossie Davis won the best actor award for his role in “Get On The Bus.” Queen Latifah won best actress for “Set if Off,” a film that also netted the best director award for F. Gary Gray and the best soundtrack award. Ten films directed, written or produced by African-Americans were nominated for the festival, which closed Saturday in this Mexican resort city.
