Student Kills Self When Joke, Shot Go Astray

Compiled From Wire Services

A college student jokingly fired a shot into an apartment wall early Friday and wounded his roommate in another room - and then killed himself when he realized what he had done, a coroner said.

Timothy Foreman, 21, of Pittsburgh had come home from a night of drinking and found that a sandwich was missing from his refrigerator at the apartment near Indiana University of Pennsylvania, said Indiana County Coroner Tom Streams.

Foreman, a psychology major, jokingly told roommates that he would shoot the person who stole the sandwich, got a handgun and fired at a paper bullseye he had taped to the wall at his room.

The bullet went through the wall and wounded the roommate in the abdomen. When Foreman realized what had happened, he shot himself in the head, Streams said.

Foreman was pronounced dead at Indiana Hospital at 4 a.m. The name and condition of the roommate were not immediately released.
