Woman Flees When Chimney Fire Burns Second Floor Of Home
A Spokane woman had to be evacuated from her residence Friday morning after a fire tore through the second floor of her home.
Kay Learn, 1712 E. Olympic, was uninjured in the blaze, according to Battalion Chief Hal Williams of the Spokane Fire Department.
Williams said Learn started a fire in her fireplace at 7 a.m. The top of the chimney caught fire shortly after the fire was lit. Learn told firefighters the chimney had not been cleaned in two years.
One firefighter fell through the roof partially as the fire burned out. However, he was not injured in the accident, Williams said.
The house suffered extensive damage on its second floor. , DataTimes
