Ni Marketing Students Win Awards At Conference
The North Idaho College Delta Epsilon Chi (DEC), an association of marketing students, recently won a total of six gold medals, three silver medals, two bronze medals and two fourth-place finisher positions at the state DEC Career Development Conference held in Boise. First place winners represent gold medals, second place silver, and third place bronze. The group competed as a team with other members placing in various positions.
Shane Clark won first place in Advertising Campaign and placed second in Hospitality Marketing Management; Paul Norton placed first in both Travel & Tourism Marketing Management and Advertising Campaign; Renee Scott earned first place in Sales Promotion Plan; Maxim Skolin won first in Entrepreneurship and third in Apparel & Accessories Management Level; Ben Toews won first place in Hospitality Marketing Management; Rod Broach earned two second-place awards for General Marketing and Sales Representative Presentation; TJ Barnhart won fourth place for Entrepreneurship Business Plan; Eric Cravens won a third place for Management Decision; Demarie Glaizer earned fourth place for Sales Manager Meeting; Don Doty won a seventh place in Retail Merchandising; and Tyler Bush won eighth place in Hospitality Marketing Management. Broach, Clark, Doty, Norton, Scott, Skolin and Toews will represent NIC and Idaho at the National DEC Career Development Conference later this year in California.
The North Idaho College Sentinel has been named Newspaper of the Year among twoyear, non-weekly college newspapers.
About 60 schools competed for the award at the National College Newspaper Convention in Huntington Beach, Calif. This is the second year in a row it won the award, said newspaper adviser Nils Rosdahl.
“We defended our championship. Last year was the first year they’d done it,” he said of the students’ effort.
Managing editor Amanda Tomme represented The Sentinel at the convention.
Student Kibbee Walton also won a second place in the sports photography competition, which is open to all colleges and universities.
