Phil Akers Recently Named Director Of Ewu Foundation
Phil Akers has recently been named associate vice president for development at Eastern Washington University and executive director of the EWU foundation.
Akers has been regional director of development with Washington State University-Spokane since 1994 and was director of annual giving at Gonzaga University before that.
He is an active member of the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education.
Army National Guard Pvt. Brant Zwick, a 1996 graduate of Lakeside High School, Nine Mile Falls, has graduated from the armor crewman course at Fort Knox, Ky., designed to teach defensive and offensive combat operations.
Zwick is the son of Kent and Cecelia Zwick.
Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Jeremy Riggan graduated from the security apprentice course at the Air Force Security Police Academy, San Antonio, Texas. The course teaches operations security systems, tactics, and weapons use, handling and safety.
Riggan, son of James and Barbara Riggan, Spokane, is a 1992 graduate of Brewster (Wash.) High School.
James Flynn, founding director of the Spokane County Department of Corrections, has been appointed to the Governor’s Council on Substance Abuse.
The council advises the governor on substance abuse issues and helps develop prevention, education, intervention, treatment, and law and justice goals to reduce substance abuse in the state.
Flynn retired from the Corrections Department a year ago.
