James Caddis Receives Hixson Fellowship Award

James Caddis, a longtime member of the Downtown Spokane Kiwanis Club, was presented with the George F. Hixson Fellowship Award.

Caddis was recognized for his lengthy service and commitment to Kiwanis. The group will contribute more than $1,000 in Caddis’ name to the Kiwanis Worldwide Service Project, which hopes to eradicate iodine deficiency disorder throughout the world.

This is the first time a downtown Kiwanis Club member has been honored in such a fashion.

Three Inland Northwest members of the Air Force and Washington National Guard were among those selected as Soldiers and Airmen of the Year for 1996:

Airman of the Year: Senior Airman Angela Henson, 256th Combat Communication Squadron, Cheney, is a traditional Guardsman.

Air Noncommissioned Officer of the Year: Staff Sgt. Duane Crockett, 256th Combat Communication Squadron, Cheney, is a traditional Guardsman.

Air Senior Noncommissioned Officer: Master Sgt. Andrew Isaccson, 141st Air Refueling Wing, Fairchild Air Force Base, is a full-time federal technician.

Air Force Airman Samuel Ames, son of John and Katherine Ames, Spokane, graduated from the security apprentice course at the Air Force Security Police Academy, Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. The course covers operations security systems, tactics, and weapons use, handling and safety.

Ames is a 1995 graduate of Mead Senior High School.

Pfc. Scott Haney, son of Roland and Janet Haney, Spokane, received the NATO and Army Achievement medals for Operation Joint Endeavor. Haney is a 1995 graduate of North Central High School.

The Lewis and Clark High School Math Team, with Greg Sampson as coach and math teacher, placed in the Northwest Math Championships in Blaine, Wash.:

The ninth- and tenth-grade team with Nicole Carlson, Joel Wickre, Joel Pierce and Tim Johnson, placed third; Nicole Carlson placed sixth, individually.

The 11th- and 12th-grade team of Nadav Tanners, Greg Johnson, Lisa Hamilton and Roy Shea placed third.

Nadav Tanners placed 12th individually among the 11th- and 12th-graders, his fourth year to place in the top 15.

Ila Aiken received a certificate of recognition from the Famous Poets Society for her poem, “Grammy, Where Is God?”
