Raymond Corrigan Receives Meritorious Service Medal
Navy Lt. Cmdr. Raymond B. Corrigan, a 1978 graduate of Moscow High School, recently received the Meritorious Service Medal for outstanding performance while serving with Naval Forces Central Command and Commander, 5th Fleet in Manamah, Bahrain.
Corrigan, who graduated from the University of Idaho with a bachelors and masters degree, and joined the Navy in 1983, served as the battle damage assessment officer and collection manager during Operation Desert Strike in the Persian Gulf and provided critical target development and intelligence support ensuring forces were prepared to strike on command.
He developed and coordinated a post-strike strategy to determine restrike options. From that analysis, 17 Tomahawk land attack cruise missile restrikes weakened Iraq’s southern air defense and expanded the United Nations-imposed no-fly zone.
Army Pvt. Dennis W. Sanchez, a 1996 graduate of Post Falls High School, recently graduated from the armor crewman course at Fort Knox, Ky.
Sanchez, son of Marie Sanchez and Dennis Blair of Post Falls, learned to serve as a member of an armor unit in defensive and offensive combat operations and received training in basic combat, weaponry, ammunition supply duties, armored weapon driving and learned to process intelligence and operations data.
Marine Cpl. Brian R. Vaughan, son of Robert and Margarete Vaughan of Coeur d’Alene, was recently meritoriously promoted to his present rank while serving with Headquarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division, Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, Calif.
Vaughan, who is a 1993 Coeur d’Alene High School graduate, was cited for superior job performance and proficiency in his designated specialty. He joined the Marine Corps in 1995.
