Alliance Has Information On Fair Housing Issues
The Northwest Fair Housing Alliance is hosting two public meetings Wednesday at the Argonne Library as part of a countywide analysis of impediments to fair housing.
An afternoon session begins at 3 p.m. The evening session starts at 6 p.m. Each meeting is scheduled to run two hours at the library, 4322 N. Argonne.
Each meeting will include a review of fair housing laws and a discussion of obstacles buyers and renters face in the public and private housing markets. Housing brokerage services, financial assistance options, public policies affecting site approval and other building requirements, and administrative policies concerning community development and housing activities that affect minority housing opportunities also will be discussed.
The Valley meetings are part of a series being held countywide. Other meetings will be held at Cheney High School (Tuesday), Harmon Community Center (Thursday) and Liberty High School (Mar. 19).
Food safety volunteers sought
Washington State University cooperative extension is seeking volunteers for its annual food safety advisory program.
Volunteers will receive 24 hours of training, and are expected to contribute 50 hours to help educate consumers countywide. Volunteer activities will include answering questions over the phone during the food preservation season, working in booths at fairs and working in teams to conduct food safety preservation demonstrations.
Training sessions will be held on Wednesdays from April 9 through May 28. Anyone interested should contact Elaine Mir, at WSU Cooperative Extension, 222 N. Havana, or call her at 533-2058.
Dance performance scheduled
Performers from Dance Theater Northwest will bring the childhood stories of Beatrix Potter to life next Saturday during a performance at The Met.
Shows are scheduled at 2 p.m. and 7 at the Metropolitan Performing Arts Center, 901 W. Riverside. Both will be narrated and signed for the deaf.
Stories will include the tales of Peter Rabbit and Benjamin Bunny, Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle, Appley Dapply, Squirrel Nutkin, Johnny Town-Mouse, Jemima Puddle-Duck and others.

Water district to hold meeting
Irvin Water District No. 6 will hold its annual public meeting on Tuesday at the district office, 11907 E. Trent.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
The district’s board of commissioners will discuss Irvin Water’s future plans. Residents will have a chance to ask questions and make comments, said Helen Dunlap, the district’s office manager.
