Moscow Wins A-2 Crown

The Moscow Bears used a smothering defense to beat Snake River 69-44 and win the Idaho State A-2 boys basketball championship Saturday night at the Idaho Center.

“It was strictly our defense and rebounding,” said Moscow coach Don Dudley, whose team opened the season 0-3 before winning their final 20. “We had the depth to play tough defense. I don’t think you saw a moment where Snake River could relax on offense.”

Snake River (22-3) committed 23 turnovers, which Moscow converted into 18 points.

It was redemption for Moscow, which fell to Bear Lake last year in the state title game.

The Bears joined A-4 Lakeside of Plummer as the first state title winners in North Idaho since 1989. Lakeside beat Troy 44-34.

Madison captured its first A-1 title since moving up from A-2 in 1986 as the Bobcats held off Highland 48-41. Post Falls finished fourth.

Teton beat Potlatch 52-49 for the A-3 title. , DataTimes
