100 Flee Apartment House Blaze
A five-alarm apartment fire early Sunday ousted more than 100 residents, many of whom had to jump or be rescued from second floor windows and fire escapes.
No one was injured.
The fire started about 3 a.m. in the basement of the San Marco apartments in northeast Portland, and tore through all three stories. A leaking natural gas line in the basement apparently fed the flames, but fire investigators had not yet determined what caused the fire.
It took about 150 firefighters 2 hours to extinguish the fire.
The building is owned by Metro Community Development Corp.
