Post Falls Schools Plan Levy Election
The Post Falls School District will ask voters to approve a supplemental levy on March 25.
The additional $500,000 a year for the next two years would be used for school maintenance, school buses, textbooks and curriculum improvements.
Such property tax levies have become routine in cash-strapped North Idaho school districts.
In the past year alone, the Post Falls district has spent supplemental funds to give the junior high school a major facelift, improve wiring and lighting at the high school, install carpet in preschool rooms, and put a new roof on Ponderosa Elementary.
Property taxes in the district will decrease even if the levy passes, school officials said. The levy rate for Post Falls taxpayers in 1996 was 60 cents per $1,000 of assessed valuation. With passage of the replacement supplemental levy, the cost would be 57 cents per thousand.
The polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. March 25.
