City Approves Meadow Glen Rezoing Request

City hearing examiner Greg Smith has approved developer Leif Sorenson’s request to rezone 13 lots in the Indian Trail area from single family to duplexes.

Neighbors in the Meadow Glen subdivision opposed the rezoning, complaining that it would add traffic and reduce the value of their homes. “We bought our properties based on this being a single-family neighborhood,” said Henry Crisler, whose home is across the street from the proposed duplexes.

The lots are next to land set aside for a future city park. High voltage power lines stretch the length of the park, behind the lots. Sorenson said it was an oversight that the lots weren’t originally zoned for duplexes, noting that it’s difficult to sell homes near powerlines.

“Our investment shouldn’t be jeopardized by his lack of foresight,” said neighbor Warren Erickson.

The approval comes with the condition that the duplexes blend with the existing neighborhood, including landscaping.

Neighbors have until March 20 to appeal the decision.
