Idaho Makes Pitch For Nike Operation

Compiled From Wire Services

An assistant to Nike Chairman Phil Knight met with Gov. Phil Batt for almost two hours Wednesday about what Idaho has to offer the company as it considers expanding somewhere other than Oregon.

Howard Slusher did not indicate where Nike might want to locate in Idaho, “nor do we have any indication that they might come here,” Batt said. “It’s just a possibility. We think thay would be a good employer, so we’re going to give them the best story we can.”

The governor’s meeting with Slusher came in the wake of Nike’s letter to the governors of six Western states and British Columbia asking if they were interested in hosting a 5,000-employee Nike office campus. Other states Nike reportedly is considering include Washington, California and Nevada.
