School District Levy Measures Supported

From Staff And Wire Reports

Whitman County school districts received broad voter support for nine levy measures proposed in special elections Tuesday.

A hospital district annexation, three park levies and one city street proposal also were approved.

Area school administrators seemed buoyed by the election results, said Whitman County Auditor Genie Goldsworthy, especially considering that many levies passed with more than 80 percent approval margins. A minimum of 60 percent approval was required for passage.

“Every measure on the ballot passed and most of the superintendents were very pleased,” Goldsworthy said.

Levies passed Tuesday included:

Palouse School District, $270,000; Colton School District, $271,947 for maintenance and $175,000 for capital projects; Rosalia School District, $299,000; Oakesdale School District, $230,000; Steptoe School District, $15,000 for building repair and instruction and $70,000 for maintenance and operations; LaCrosse School District $606,000, and Garfield School District, $190,000.

The LaCrosse, Garfield and Rosalia park districts gained approval of $40,000, $35,000 and $35,000 levies, respectively, for park upkeep and operations. Rosalia voters also approved a $25,000 special levy for the city street fund.
