West Central Neighborhood Council Recognized
West Central residents brought government a little closer to home on Monday when the Spokane City Council recognized the area’s neighborhood council.
It is the fourth council formed under a plan Mayor Jack Geraghty and city council members say will give residents greater imput into how services are delivered to their neighborhoods.
The Emerson-Garfield and Nevada Lidgerwood areas on the North Side and Cannon’s Addition on the South Side already have neighborhood councils.
The councils are designed to “foster a sense of community, and promote and engage residents in a dialogue with the city of Spokane,” said Molly Myers, the city’s director of neighborhood services.
Resident Harriet Krueger said she and other neighborhood leaders must work hard to get everyone in their neighborhood involved.
Geraghty commended the North Side neighborhood for joining the council program. “It’s such a beautiful neighborhood that’s come through all kinds of adversity,” he said. “You’re really to be congratulated for that.”
