Campaign Finance Reform Bill Headed For Final Vote
A controversial campaign finance reform bill is headed toward a final vote in the House.
The measure already has cleared the Senate and Gov. Phil Batt supports it, meaning if the bill gets through the House in the final days of the 1997 session it likely will become law.
It was approved by the House State Affairs Committee Thursday.
An effort to amend the bill failed 13-7 and it seems certain to pass the full House with the GOP majority pushing it.
“It is not a perfect bill. There is much yet to be done,” said GOP Majority Leader Rep. Bruce Newcomb. “It is a good step in that direction and I am ready to get started.”
