Bill On Insulting School Workers Withdrawn

From Staff Report

Sen. Shawn Keough’s bill that would outlaw insulting school bus drivers or other school workers in front of the kids has been withdrawn.

The measure, which already had passed the Senate, would extend the current law that outlaws insulting public school teachers in front of the students.

Members of the House Education Committee questioned whether there was a conflict with the free speech guarantee.

Keough, R-Sandpoint, said the current law may need to be adjusted to make sure it’s constitutional, before it’s extended to cover non-teachers.
