Sale Of World’s Largest Soccer Stadium Delayed

Compiled From Wire Services

The sale of the world’s largest soccer stadium to a local consortium has been delayed, a newspaper reported Saturday.

Marcello Alencar, governor of the state of Rio de Janeiro, halted the impending sale of Maracana Stadium, mainly because of the consortium’s plan to raze an adjoining stadium that houses the city’s only running track, the O Globo newspaper reported.

The area of the demolished stadium would be used as a parking lot.
