Obituaries

Richard Rivers Spokane

Visitation for Richard Stewart Rivers, 55, is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. Service will follow at the funeral home. Burial will be at Pines Cemetery.

Mr. Rivers, who died Thursday, was a 12-year Spokane resident.

He was born in Tacoma.

He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War and also served in the Navy Reserve until 1987.

He was the captain on excursion boats for Rivers Navigation Co., which he operated with his father and stepmother on the Snake River, from 1970 until 1983. He also drove truck for Hatfield Enterprises and Poe Asphalt, both in Clarkston, Wash.

Mr. Rivers is survived by a son, Kenneth Rivers, and a daughter, Patricia Rivers, both of Benton City, Wash.; his mother and stepfather, Anatha and Frank Graham of Spokane; his father and stepmother, Richard and Lois Rivers of Lewiston; and four brothers, Joe Rivers of Spokane, Tim Rivers of Lewiston, William Albers of Boise and Dennis Albers of Grangeville, Idaho.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Lorraine Frye Spokane

Memorial service for Lorraine Raphael Frye, 89, is planned for 3 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home.

Mrs. Frye, who died Wednesday, was born in Grand Island, Neb. She came to Spokane in 1917 and graduated from Central Valley High School.

In 1929 she married Harlan Frye.

She was a member of Retired Senior Volunteers and the Daughters of Union Veterans and sang with Project Joy Minstrels for more than 20 years.

In 1980 she was Project Joy’s first nominee for Senior Citizen of the Year.

Mrs. Frye also volunteered at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center and for the United Crusade, Cerebral Palsy, the American Red Cross, the March of Dimes and Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Her husband died in 1966.

Survivors include a son, Roger Frye of Deer Park; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Doris Lee-Clark Spokane

Memorial service for Doris Lee-Clark, 54, will be at 11 a.m. today at Sunset Mausoleum Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lee-Clark, who died Tuesday, was born in Iola, Kan., and had lived in Spokane for 37 years.

She graduated from Metaline (Wash.) High School and received a master’s degree in education from Whitworth College.

She was active in many groups for the handicapped in Spokane.

Survivors include a sister, Barbara Lee of Spokane.

Lee Mann Spokane

Funeral Mass for Lee E. Mann, 91, will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Mann, who died Thursday, was born near Reardan, Wash., and had lived in Spokane for 71 years.

He worked as a shipping clerk for General Mills.

Mr. Mann was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish and the South Hill Senior Center.

His wife, Marcella, died in 1990.

He is survived by a son, David Mann of Spokane; a daughter, Donna Turner of Portland; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Eleanor Loan Spokane

Private service will be held for Eleanor E. Loan. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Loan, 83, died March 9.

She was born in Spokane and graduated from North Central High School.

She lived in Kodiak, Alaska for 15 years and then moved to Medical Lake in 1958. She moved to Spokane in 1980.

Mrs. Loan is survived by two sons, Larry Lorentzen of Spokane and Phillip Soucy of Beaver Creek, Ore.; a brother, Chester Heller of Spokane; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lawrence Markley Palouse, Wash.

Service for Lawrence Eugene “Larry” Markley, 64, will be at 10 a.m. today at Kimball Funeral Home in Pullman. Burial will follow at Pullman City Cemetery.

Mr. Markley, who died Wednesday, was born in Pullman and graduated from Pullman High School.

He joined the Army in 1953 and was a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division. He was honorably discharged in 1956.

In 1955 he married Shirley Johnson in Pittsboro, N.C., and they returned to Pullman in 1956. Mr. Markley graduated from Washington State University with a degree in physical education and taught school and coached in Deary and Bliss, Idaho. He also taught for 12 years in Creston, Wash.

He and his family moved to Palouse in 1973, and he worked as a furniture repairman and maintenance mechanic until he retired in 1992 from Washington State University.

He was a member of the Colfax Eagles Lodge.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Mike Markley of Colfax, Wash., and Rick Markley of Moscow, Idaho; a daughter, Joydene Clifford of Moscow; and three grandchildren.

Evelyn ‘Pat’ Johnston Spokane

Graveside service for Evelyn L. “Pat” Johnston, 75, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Peone Prairie Cemetery. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Johnston, who was born in Colbert, died Wednesday.

She graduated from Mead High School and worked for White Pine Sash and Door Co. for 23 years.

Her husband, Kenneth Johnston, died in 1978.

She is survived by a stepdaughter, Darlynn of Spokane; two sisters, Gladys of Spokane and Stella of Colbert; and six stepgrandchildren.

Lloyd Bloomington Spokane

Service for Lloyd F. Bloomington, 77, is planned for 2 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. There will be private inurnment.

Mr. Bloomington, a retired Spokane fire captain, died Thursday. He was born in Helena.

He had lived in Spokane since 1934.

He joined the Spokane Fire Department in 1942 and was promoted to captain in 1954. He served as coordinator of fire services with the Spokane Civil Defense organization in 1962, and in 1970 he was appointed acting director of the city Civil Defense Department. He retired in 1979.

Mr. Bloomington was a World War II Navy veteran and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 51.

He is survived by four sons, Terry Cotter and David Lee, both of Spokane, Gary Cotter of Kansas City, Mo., and Daniel Lee of Elk; a daughter, Sherry Lee Hoyt of Twin Lakes, Idaho; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
