Batt Signs Bill Allowing Digital City Records

Compiled From Wire Services

Rep. Jim Clark’s first bill, allowing cities to maintain records digitally, was signed into law by Gov. Phil Batt on Monday.

Clark, R-Hayden, said, “It was a request from the city clerk in Hayden back in December.”

Counties already have that ability, Clark said. His bill gave the go-ahead to cities, too.

Batt complimented Clark on getting unanimous votes in both the House and Senate on the measure.

But Clark didn’t fare as well with his proposal to modify the state’s budget process to require money to go automatically to a reserve account each year. That bill, SB1088, was passed by the Senate but was withdrawn Monday by unanimous agreement in the House.

Rep. Bob Geddes, R-Preston, chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, said the committee wants the bill returned because it needs “some adjustments.” The idea could be revisited next year.
