Council May Modify Shoreline Rules
The rules on what can be built along the city’s shoreline may be modified by the City Council this evening.
At the council’s instruction, the Planning and Zoning Commission rewrote the city’s Shoreline Ordinance to the construction of seawalls along Sanders Beach within 18 feet of the lake.
In January, Jack Simpson asked the council to grant a waiver from the ordinance so he could build a seawall to match those of his neighbors. The council decided it couldn’t allow that under existing rules and denied Simpson’s request.
Simultaneously, the council directed the Planning and Zoning Commission to look for a way to rewrite the rules to make Simpson’s wall possible. The planning commission unanimously approved the change in February.
In other business the council is expected to:
Consider rezoning a lot at the corner of Coeur d’Alene Avenue and Fifth Street from residential to limited commercial at the request of North Idaho Youth for Christ.
Consider extending the ban on crane access to the Third Street boat ramp pending completion of an engineering study. The cranes may be damaging the seawall while setting boats in Lake Coeur d’Alene. , DataTimes
