Assault Suspect Going To Juvenile Court
A teenager accused of breaking three of his father’s limbs with a baseball bat will be prosecuted in Juvenile Court, a Spokane County court commissioner ruled Wednesday. William Enright, 16, is charged with second-degree assault and first-degree malicious mischief in the Feb. 15 attack on his father.
Prosecutors wanted the case moved to adult court, saying the crime was particularly brutal. If he had been convicted there, Enright would have faced up to six years in prison.
But Commissioner Ellen Kalama Clark decided the boy, who has no felony record, should be prosecuted in juvenile court.
A conviction there would bring a sentence of 21-28 weeks in detention.
Authorities say Enright struck his father with an aluminum bat several times after the two argued at their Riverside home. The man suffered two broken arms and a broken leg in the attack.
The boy then smashed up the house, causing nearly $1,500 in damage, authorities said. , DataTimes
