Man Loses Paycheck In Robbery, Assault
Spokane police investigated an assault and robbery that occurred Monday afternoon near Third Avenue and Cedar.
The victim was too drunk, however, to provide police with a description of the suspect who assaulted him.
The victim, 44, told police that a man he knows only as “John” accompanied him to a temporary employment company where the victim picked up his paycheck. The victim said “John” then hit him, took his check and ran away.
Police took the victim to the Detox Center for care.
Boat motor stolen
Someone, sometime between October and March 12, broke into an unlocked shed at 3000 S. Assembly and stole a 9 horsepower Honda boat motor valued at $1,800.
The owner told sheriff’s deputies he was storing his boat for the winter in his brother’s shed. When the owner went to check on his boat, he discovered the engine missing.
Break-in attempt thwarted
A man foiled a burglary attempt March 11 in the 6900 block of West Birch Wood, near Nine Mile.
The man told sheriff’s deputies two men knocked on his door about 8:30 a.m. and asked if they could clean up ice-storm damage.
When the homeowner told the two men he didn’t have any work available, one of the men went to his next-door neighbor’s house and began ringing the doorbell.
When the suspect got no response, he apparently began kicking the door.
The homeowner, who heard the racket, stepped outside and yelled for the two men to stop.
The suspects took off in a white and tan 1966 Pontiac Tempest “with a license plate similar to CXY166,” said sheriff’s spokesman, Dave Reagan.
Both suspects are in their mid-20s. One of the suspects was wearing a dirty tan or white cap and a red flannel shirt, Reagan said.
Burglar takes generator
Winter is almost over, and the electricity is back on, but someone broke into a house and stole a 4,000-watt generator March 10 sometime between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m.
The generator, valued at $700, was taken from a home in the 1400 block of South Graham Road. A chain saw was moved but wasn’t taken in the break-in, the victim told sheriff’s deputies.
The victim told police she locked the house before leaving for work. When she returned home, she found a door on the southwest corner of the house standing open.
The lock on the door had been pried open.
