East Valley Accepts Walker Bid

East Valley School District has accepted a bid of $2.15 million from Walker Construction for additions to Skyview and East Farms elementary schools.

That includes $181,640 in alternates above and beyond the basic bid.

Walker submitted the low bid, out of 10 received, said Tom Crouch, East Valley business manager. The bid is low enough that the district will have an extra $150,000 for more work, probably on the office area at Skyview.

“We’re really pleased,” Crouch said. “We’re in a really good bid climate right now.

The construction will mean eight new classrooms for Skyview and four new classrooms for East Farms.

Northwest Architectural Co. had estimated the work for the two elementaries would cost $2.31 million.

Bids will be awarded next month for work on East Valley’s two middle schools and high school, Crouch said.

The timetable for the major renovation of Trent Elementary School is slower.

Because the district is counting on matching funds from the state, officials must wait for the state education board to OK those funds at its next meeting, which is in June.
