Electrical League Heard From Humorist
The Inland Northwest Electrical League said that its Thursday keynote speaker was comedian Bob Ross, not an official from the U.S. Department of Energy, as advertised.
Ross, a Carlsbad, Calif., humorist, posed as “Harvey Hollingsworth, deputy director of the energy department.” The name and position are fictitious.
Ross spoke to 104 people at the Opportunities ‘97 Electrical Expo at the Red Lion City Center. His purpose was to impart humor in the workplace, said league director Bonnie Ullman. Participants paid $20 each for the lunch.
Ullman said at least two people were upset by Ross posing as a government official and the organization will refund the $20 lunch cost upon request.
The appearance of “Hollingsworth” was announced March 17 in the business pages of The Spokesman-Review. The announcement was based on a press release from the electrical league, a nonprofit trade association of electrical providers.
