Flying Puck Leaves 10-Year-Old In Coma
A 10-year-old boy from Indiana was in a coma Friday after he was hit in the head by a puck while watching a hockey game.
The stray puck hit Chad Faulkner on the side of the head during a game Thursday night between the Windsor Spitfires and Sarnia Sting of the Ontario Hockey League.
The boy’s mother, Jenny Faulkner, said her son saw the puck coming, but couldn’t avoid it.
“We were in the front row. There was nothing between us and a puck coming at our heads,” she said. “Chad tried to get out of the way, but he couldn’t get down in time so he closed his eyes and turned his head.”
Faulkner, of Batesville, Ind., was rushed to a hospital where doctors removed a blood clot from his brain.
“This could have been avoided if the glass had been higher,” Jenny Faulkner said.
Arena manager Clayton Tourangeau said Windsor Arena’s glass is lower than most but is not dangerous.
