New County Commissioner Hosts Valley Town Hall Meeting

Freshman county commissioner Kate McCaslin will host the first in a series of quarterly town hall meetings Wednesday at Horizon Junior High School.

McCaslin will field questions and concerns about Valley issues. All topics are open for discussion, said Chad Hutson, county Public Works Department spokesman.

The two-hour meeting will be begin at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria at Horizon, 3915 S. Pines.

By hosting the meeting, McCaslin will make good on a campaign promise to facilitate communication between commissioners and the public.

Quarterly meetings are in McCaslin’s ongoing plans, Hutson said. Future meeting locations will be scattered throughout District 2 neighborhoods in an attempt to include everyone, Hutson said.

Valley Fire buys vans

Valley Fire District will buy three full-size vans to replace aging training and command vehicles.

The white, all-wheel drive vans will cost $24,085.76 each. George Gee GMC was the low bidder and won the contract to supply the vans.

Two of the vans will be used by training officers, the other by a battalion chief as an on-scene command center, said Chief Pat Humphries.

Residents discuss Albertson’s plan

The Southeast Valley Neighborhood Association will meet Monday at Sunrise Elementary School.

Discussions will include the proposed Albertsons shopping center, the topic of a public hearing before county commissioners next month. The neighborhood association meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the school, 14603 E. 24th.

The hearing about the shopping center, proposed at the corner of 32nd Avenue and Highway 27, is scheduled for April 1 in the Public Works Building, 1026 W. Broadway. It begins at 5 p.m. in the commissioners’ assembly room.

Weed board position available

County commissioners are accepting applications for an opening on the noxious weed control board.

Applicants must live in weed board district 3, which includes the towns of Fairfield and Rockford, and work in the primary production of agricultural products.

Anyone interested in the position should submit an application and resume by April 2. Applications are available in the commissioners’ office, 1116 W. Broadway.
