Play Opens Holy Week At Opportunity Presbyterian

Opportunity Presbyterian Church, 202 N. Pines, is offering a variety of Holy Week worship services next week in preparation for Easter.

Holy Week begins with two special services on Sunday at 8:30 and 11 a.m. The musical mystery drama “The Bishop’s Song” will be presented in place of the sermon at both services.

A service will be held at 7 p.m. on Maundy Thursday. A reenactment of the Last Supper will be included in the service, which will be preceded by a soup supper at 6 p.m.

Good Friday will be celebrated with a service at 7 p.m.

The community is invited to attend the Holy Week services. All events are free. For more information, call 924-9750.

Holy Week at Good Shepherd

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 810 S. Sullivan Road, has several worship services scheduled during Holy Week.

The 8:30 and 11 a.m. services on Sunday will each include a short pageant presented by the children, during which they will recite an Easter poem.

A Taize service of prayers and meditation will be at the church Monday at 7 p.m. A Maundy Thursday service will begin at 7 p.m., preceded by a soup supper at 6 p.m. Child care will be provided for this service.

Both services are also sponsored by St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Resurrection Episcopal Church. The Stations of the Cross will be presented at noon on Good Friday at St. Mary’s, 304 S. Adams Road, in conjunction with Good Shepherd and Resurrection.

Drama tells Easter story

“Reflections of Calvary,” a dramatic production of the Easter story, will be presented at the New Hope Christian Center, 1108 N. Argonne Road.

Performances will be today, and next Friday and Saturday. All performances begin at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free and all are invited to attend. For more information, call 926-5536.

‘Born to Die’ performances free

“Born to Die” will be presented at Valley Assembly of God, 15618 E. Broadway. The drama tells of Christ’s birth, death and resurrection through the eyes of Barabbas.

The free performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday and at 9:30 and 11 a.m. next Sunday. For more information, call 924-0466.

Special services Thursday, Friday

Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2511 S. Pines, will hold a special foot washing Maundy Thursday service at 7:15 p.m. A worship service will also be held at 7:15 p.m. on Good Friday.

Byzantine Easter bazaar

The Saints Cyril and Methodius Byzantine Catholic Church is hosting a Byzantine Easter bazaar today from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the church, 4325 N. Evergreen.

The bazaar will feature Eastern European food and baked goods, icons and religious gifts, and religious books.

Easter egg hunt planned

The Veradale United Church of Christ, 611 N. Progress Road, will present a special intergenerational worship service at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday.

An Easter egg hunt for children will be held after the service. The church youth group will serve brunch at noon. Donations will be requested to help cover the cost of the meal. A bake sale will also begin at noon.

The church will also hold a Tenebre service with Holy Communion at 7:30 p.m. on Maundy Thursday. A foot washing service will be at 7:30 p.m. on Good Friday.

Two churches join for service

A Maundy Thursday service with Holy Communion will begin at 7 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, 4124 N. Harvard Road.

The congregation of Good Shepherd Lutheran will join Peace Lutheran for a Good Friday service at 7:30 p.m. at Peace Lutheran.
